Two New Courses Added to MCMA Season!

I’ve added two new and fantastic courses to the music appreciation season at the Manitoba Conservatory of Music & Arts. Please consider including them in your calendar!

BAROQUE MASTERPIECES

Co-presented by Creative Retirement, the Manitoba Conservatory of Music & Arts, and the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra

Savour some of the grandest music composed between 1600 and 1750, in this fascinating, multi-faceted course. You’ll hear a wide-ranging assortment of instrumental and vocal works that exemplify the German, Italian, French and English schools of the period: music by Bach, Handel, Vivaldi, Purcell, Corelli, Pachelbel, Telemann, Gabrieli, Pergolesi, Scarlatti, Marais and others. You’ll also learn about these composers’ lives, and delve into the artistic and social forces that shaped their era.

Daytime Course
Four Tuesdays, April 13 to May 4, 10:00 am to 12:00 pm

RESPIGHI: ROME AND BEYOND
Co-presented by Creative Retirement, the Manitoba Conservatory of Music & Arts, and the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra

Designed to enrich your enjoyment of the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra’s performances of the celebrated trilogy of Roman tone poems by Italian composer Ottorino Respighi, this seminar examines not only those spectacular works but also a sampling of his other music. You’ll make many appealing discoveries as instructor Don Anderson presents the best of Respighi’s little-known orchestral, chamber and vocal compositions.
